Bixby Reportedly Coming To The Gear S4

It has been a while since Samsung launched a new wearable device and the company is expected to unveil its new smartwatch, the Gear S4, in a couple of months. There have already been a few reports about what we can expect from Samsung’s new smartwatch. The latest suggests that Samsung is bringing Bixby to the Gear S4.

Bixby is Samsung’s very own virtual private assistant much like Siri and Cortana. It’s a bit different in that it can do anything in response to voice commands that the user can do by actually touching the display. The Galaxy S8 was Samsung’s first smartphone with Bixby and it has since been present on the company’s flagship smartphones.

Samsung has said time and again that it will expand Bixby to more devices so it’s hardly surprising to hear that it’s going to bring Bixby to smartwatches as well. SamMobile reports that Bixby will be present on the Gear S4 at launch, enabling users to control their smartwatch with voice commands.

Don’t expect a dedicated Bixby key on the Gear S4, though, even though Samsung has been quite stubborn in keeping it on its flagship smartphones despite criticism from users. Those who don’t use Bixby don’t like having an extra button on their handset that they can’t do anything else with because Samsung doesn’t allow remapping of the Bixby key. Bixby may be summoned on the Gear S4 through its home button or with a simple “Hi Bixby” voice command.

Samsung hasn’t announced as yet when it’s going to launch the Gear S4 smartwatch. If history is any indication, that might happen at IFA 2018 in Berlin this September.
