Downtown Abbey Cast all set to Reunite for a Feature Film based on the TV series

After the Downton Abbey TV series stopped airing in 2015, it comes as a relief to many fans that it is returning at last in the form of a feature film. The announcement today came from Peter Kujawski, chairman Focus Features and from the official twitter account of the series itself which revealed that the family drama’s next chapter will soon be arriving on the big screen. It will be written by Julian Fellowes and will be directed and produced by Brian Percival. It will be a Carnival Films production with Universal Pictures International and Focus Features at the distributing end.

Downton Abbey‘s actual run was highly appreciated, grabbing a stunning 3 Golden Globes, 15 Emmys and a Special BAFTA. Quite obviously it means that the general expectations from the film are quite high. Its six-season run was an international hit which showed the Crawley family in an Edwardian 20th century English home.

In the upcoming film, the cast members expecting to be reprising their roles include Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery, Dame Maggie Smith and Elizabeth McGovern.

In spite of the fact that filming is lined up to commence within weeks the specifics of the movie’s premise have yet to be announced. Producers have promised the return of the original leading cast but have not disclosed who else will be involved.

If the film creators pick up the story from where it was left off, the Crawley family should be shown doing quite well. The end of the last series predicted the inevitable decline of the British society, but most of the family had displaced so far away from relying on their status that it wouldn’t be a problem of any sort.

The premiere date has yet to be announced but in the meanwhile, Downtown Abbey’s previous six seasons can be caught up through Amazon. The film shooting is scheduled to begin later this summer.
