Intel Announces Xeon E-2100 Coffee Lake Series Offering 4/4 Upto 6/12 Cores/Threads

Intel has announced the latest lineup of Xeon processors, the E-2100 family. The ten new Xeons listed in the Intel Ark will be available in four varients, 4/8, 6/12, 4/4 and 6/6 compatible with the Intel C246 chipset.

The entry level units max out at 4.3 ghz while the top of the line E-2186G maxes out at 4.7 ghz, this is significantly higher than last year’s lineup, and this is something Intel has highlighted, they have stated that these chips will have better single threaded application performance. This means in theory, games and other applications which rely on good single core performance, will run quite well on these processors and you can use them for both work and fun, but we will have to wait for benchmarks to confirm the same.

All the processors in the lineup support upto 40 lanes of PCIe 3.0 connectivity and 64 gigs of DDR4 ram (upto 2666ghz) in two channels. There’s 8 MB L3 cache in the 4 core processors while the 6 cores come with 12 MB of cache. Though here’s a bummer, not all the processors come with hyperthreading, specifically the  3 entry level chips and not all of them have on-board graphics. Intel stated that these differences were there, just to hit specific target markets.

The TDP values seem to be standard across the board. The entry level Xeon E-2124 draws around 71 watts, a tad higher than the i7 8700’s 65 watts, while the E-2186G draws around 95 watts, which is similar to the i7 8700k. Please note that these values are under stock speeds and at idle load.

The entry level Xeon chips seem very exiting, and they will actually offer performance significantly better than their counterparts launched last year, due to the higher core count and higher frequencies on the top end. The chips will reportedly start at USD $200 for the base version upto USD $450 for the top version and will be available for purchase soon.
