Microsoft announces Build 17723 and Build 18204 for Windows Insiders

Microsoft has announced a new Windows Insider update for Insiders on both Fast Ring and Skip Ahead Ring. The new update brings a couple of new features. Microsoft is now focusing on fixing bugs and release RS5 update sometime in Fall 2018. Microsoft allowed Insiders to move back to Skip Ahead as well so they can get builds from the PRE_RELEASE branch. The PRE_RELEASE branch will have new features but builds will be unstable.

For now, Microsoft has the same changelog for both Fast Ring and Skip Ahead Ring but it will change moving forward. With the new builds, Microsoft also shared their plan to ditch the “Redstone” codename. Redstone 5 will be the last Redstone update and moving forward Microsoft will use 19H1 as the codename. Here, “19” will stand for the year in which the update is released and “H1” stands for the first update of that year.

Microsoft has focused on fixing issues and bugs with the latest build 17723 (RS5- Fast Ring) and 18204 (19H1- Skip Ahead). However, the company made some changes to the existing Emojis and has implemented Emoji 11. Microsoft also added some final touches to Microsoft Edge in the latest update. Lastly, the company introduced an interesting feature for those who use Mixed Reality Headsets. Called the “Flashlight”, it will allow users to take advantage of the connected camera and see the surroundings without removing the headsets. The feature will basically allow users to broadcast a video feed from the camera to the headsets so the user is aware of the surroundings.

There are plenty of bug fixes and changes with this build as well. You can head to the Windows Blog and check out the full changelog of the update. For those on Fast Ring or Skip Ahead Ring, head to Settings>Update and Security and Check for updates to download the latest build.
