Punjab Government to appoint VCs at 7 universities of Punjab
The Punjab government plans to complete the much-delayed process of appointing Vice Chancellors (VCs) at seven public sector universities in Punjab next month.
For that purpose, the Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) has conducted interviews of VC applicants for vacant seats against the University of Sahiwal, University of Okara, Ghazi University Dera Ghazi Khan and Information Technology University (ITU) Lahore. Interviews for the vacant seats at the University of Jhang, Women University Multan and University of Home Economics Lahore have yet to be conducted. However, the final appointment process is expected to be delayed until the new government takes the office after General Election 2018.
An official told while requesting for the anonymity that the provincial government is hesitant to do appointments of VC’s even requisite steps of the process is completed. He told “There is confusion over the orders issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding the appointment of the vice chancellor after shortlisting three candidates. A clarification will be sought from the SC after which the appointments will be made.”
The department has planned to complete all the process in one month and remaining interviews for other varsities has also been scheduled in order to complete the appointment process in a timeline of one month.

Besides, the HED has asked the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) to suggest and submit names of panelist who will conduct interviews of candidates for another nine universities of Punjab where the incumbent VCs are ending their period in the coming months.
These nine universities include University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Taxila, Government College University (GCU) Faisalabad, University of Gujrat (UoG), Government College for Women University (GCWU) Faisalabad, Government College for Women University (GCWU) Sialkot, University of Narowal and University of Murree.
