Fix: PUBG Network Lag Detected

The error “Network lag detected” occurs in-game when the game detects that your network doesn’t have the proper speed or connection and prompts you about the condition. This error primarily means that you don’t have a good internet connection. Hence you should check your network and make changes if necessary.

However, if your network connection is perfect and all other games are running perfectly without latency, it probably means there is some problem with PUBG itself. There are a number of solutions for this issue including changing some of your router settings to refreshing your network. We will go through each one of them one by one starting with the easiest.

How to fix PUBG Network Lag Detected

  • PUBG Network lag detected Xbox: PUBG is also available on Xbox consoles. The game on Xbox also returns this error. The solutions below related to the router and resetting the network configuration apply to this case.
  • PUBG Network lag detected freeze: When the prompt comes on the screen “Network lag detected”, the game sometimes freezes and becomes unplayable. Usually solving the network lag issue fixes the freeze automatically.
  • PUBG Network lag detected kick: When you get stuck at the ‘network lag’ for prolonged periods of time, the game automatically kicks you out to provide a better experience for other players. If you fix the network lag, this wouldn’t happen.

Solution 1: Updating PUBG

This issue was widespread in 2017 where the users had excellent internet connections but the game kept prompting that there was network lag detected. Hence after experimentations and diagnosing, the developer team released a new patch to fix the issue.

Make sure that PUBG is updated to the latest build. If you are using Steam, make sure that there is no update pending. Same goes for standalone clients and other platforms. Patches not only fix issues like mentioned before but also introduce new features in the game. Once you are absolutely sure that the game is updated, proceed with the next solutions.

Note: Also make sure that you are connected properly and the game is updated on your Xbox console if you play the game there

Solution 2: Resetting network configurations

If your game is updated and you are still getting the message, we can reset the network configurations on your computer. There are many instances where the network configurations get inconsistent with your current network and cause these problems. We will run a number of commands in the command prompt and see if this does the trick for us.

  1. Press Windows + R, type “command prompt” in the dialogue, right-click on the application and select Run as administrator.
  2. Once in elevated command prompt, execute the following commands:
ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

netsh winsock reset

  1. After all the settings are reset, try launching the game again and see if the error still pops up.

Note: Make sure that there are no other applications consuming the internet on your computer. You can check this using the resource manager inside the task manager.

Solution 3: Resetting TCP/IPv4

If the error still persists on your computer, you can try resetting the TCP/IPv4 mechanism on your computer. We will navigate to the properties of your connection using the control panel and then disable and enable it. This will force the module to reinitialize all the configurations and fix the problem if there were any discrepancies.

  1. Press Windows + R, type “control” in the dialogue box and press Enter.
  2. Once in the control panel, click on Network and Internet and then click on Network and sharing center.

  1. Now click on the connected network. It should be in front of Connections.

  1. Once you have selected the connection, a window will pop up consisting of all the details. Click on Properties.

  1. Uncheck the option Internet Protocol Version 4. Press OK and exit the settings.

  1. Wait for a few moments before opening the settings again and enabling the option again. Now try launching the game and see if the lag indication still persists.

Solution 4: Changing Router settings

Another thing you can try is to change your router QoS (Quality of service) settings. QoS enables you to prioritize the internet connection towards specific applications where they will be given access to the internet first as compared to other applications. This may make the internet access to other applications slower but may fix our problem.

  1. Enter your router’s IP in the address box of your browser. It is mostly something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.4.1. You can refer to the backside of the router or look at its manual for confirmation.
  2. Now navigate to the QoS It is mostly located in Advanced > Setup. The menu may differ according to different models so do look around.
  3. Once in the QoS menu, enable the option Turn internet access QoS on and delete all entries present by clicking Delete All or remove them manually.
  4. Now add PUBG and Discord (if you use it) to the top of the queue. You need to make sure that the option QoS by service is checked. You can scroll down and click Add a new application. Enter the information as shown in the images.

  1. Click Apply to save changes and exit the router settings. Wait a few seconds to make sure that the router implements all the changes we did. After some time, try launching the game again and check if the error message still pops up when you are playing.

Solution 5: Checking other modules/Firewalls

If all the above solutions don’t work out and you are sure that your internet connection is working perfectly, you should make sure that you have no third-party applications running in the background which are consuming the internet. You should also check your firewall and add PUBG as an exception.

If you have an antivirus installed on your computer, you should disable it temporarily and try launching the game. There are several cases where the antivirus software monitors all the traffic going in and out and this causes the delay in the game. You can always enable it later on.

Note: All these solutions will work if your internet connection is normal and other applications are able to run without any problems. If your internet connection is bad, you should make sure you fix it before following the solutions here.
