Trinity Desktop R14.0.5 Brings Modern Compiler Support and Security Fixes

Trinity Desktop, the Linux desktop environment which is forked from KDE 3, has just released an update bringing Trinity Desktop to version R14.0.5.

Because Trinity Desktop is a “traditional desktop” based on KDE 3 and focuses on function rather than a lot of special effects, its benefits are typically things like increased battery life on laptops, and just overall efficiency for the user.

This Trinity Desktop R14.0.5 update is mostly bug fixes to previous K Desktop Environment 3 packages and updates to make sure that the software will continue to play nice with modern compilers and other desktop components.

Building with GCC 7/8 compilers have received improved support, including Java 8 and newer, as well as enhanced support for using the LLVM Clang compiler, OpenSSL 1.1 support, and a lot of other little tweaks.

Some notable fixes in Trinity R14.0.5 include sound server crash fixes, .OGG audio file playback, JavaScript syntax highlighting for Kate, memory leak fixes, big endian detection, notifications for removable media, and two security fixes for known issues that date back to 2016 and 2017 respectively.
