How to Disable WebCam on Windows 10
Almost all models of laptops comes with built-in webcam nowadays. Even if you own a desktop computer, you will still likely have a webcam attached to your system. Although a webcam is very useful for various chatting applications, a lot of people don’t feel safe. This is understandable since there’s a lot of news out there about organizations spying over people. So, a lot of users want to disable the webcam especially the ones who don’t use it a lot. Fortunately, disabling the webcam is very easy and can be done in a couple of minutes. Simply follow the steps given in method 1.
Method 1: Disable/Uninstall via Device Manager
The easiest and the fastest way of disabling or uninstalling your webcam/camera is to use the device manager. You disable the driver of your webcam via the device manager and that should disable your camera. Follow the steps given below to locate and disable your webcam.
- Hold Windows key and press R
- Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter
- Locate and double click Imaging Devices. Note: If you can’t see Imaging Devices then that means your webcam isn’t properly connected to your computer or your drivers aren’t updated which leads to Window not picking up your imaging device.
- Right click your Webcam driver and select Uninstall or Disable (whatever works best for you). Follow any additional on-screen instructions
This should successfully disable your webcam/camera. As long as your drivers are disabled, your webcam won’t work.
