EA Schedules Fundraising Livestream and Donates $1m towards Jacksonville Shooting Victims

Electronic Arts has announced that they will create a fundraiser that aims to support the families of the Jacksonville shooting victims. Following the tragic incident that occurred in Jacksonville last Sunday, EA cancelled the remaining Madden qualifier events. Today, the firm launched the “Jacksonville Tribute” and donated a generous $1m towards the cause.

“The events last weekend in Jacksonville will impact the gaming community forever. We can’t begin to understand the pain so many are going through, nor do we pretend to have all the answers that will help us through the healing process. But as is so often the case, our community inspires us,” says EA in a Twitter post. “The way you are coming together, and the outpouring of support for all those by this tragedy, is incredibly uplifting.”

Jacksonville Tribute

Aside from the donation, EA also states that they will host a livestream which aims to collect contributions. The funds will go towards the victims and their families, including Taylor Robertson and Elijah Clayton. The Jacksonville Tribute livestream will be hosted on September 6th.

“We’ve heard from so many of you that you would like to support the victims, and to show that this horrific event will not define us, but only serve to make our community stronger. We’re already working with many of you to help make this happen through the livestream.”

Those who wish to support to EA’s cause and help aid the victims of the event can do so by participating in the livestream. Although no specifics were mentioned, EA states that they will share more details “very soon.” The shooting that took place in Jacksonville earlier this week was one of the most tragic events the gaming community has ever seen. It is heartwarming to see EA go the extra mile and take the necessary steps to support their loyal fans in this difficult time.
