McAfee August Update Causes Blue Screen Of Death In Several Computers

McAfee is a decent Anti-Virus software solution and often comes bundled with laptops these days. But with the current Windows 10 defender, people might not need a Anti-Virus software at all.

This is why a lot of people choose not to have an Anti-Virus solution in the first place, because they cause a lot of inconvenience. These softwares often slow down PCs and sometimes  block important files and websites. But this time many users of McAfee have faced a even bigger inconvenience.

McAfee’s August update for Endpoint Security 10.5.4 caused BSOD errors in user’s PCs. The company also stated that the error occurs when SysCore, and ENS Exploit Prevention is enabled, or Host IPS Exploit Prevention is enabled and they also clarified that the issue is time related and doesn’t happen everytime. McAfee has since asked users to refrain from installing the update and uninstall it, if it’s already installed. You can also try disabling the Exploit Prevention feature before the installation. This issue is expected to be resolved in ENS 10.7. This bug also affects the latest versions of ENS Common Client, ENS Firewall, ENS Threat Prevention, and ENS Web Control.

Every Antivirus software has a very high-level administrative access to an OS, so bugs often cause big problems. Although botched up updates are common, companies should test them more comprehensively before pushing them out.
