MotorStorm: Apocalypse is the fourth game in the MotorStorm series developed by Evolution Studios. After encountering delays, the game was released on the PlayStation 3 in 2011. Today, Game Director Paul Rustchynksy stated on Twitter that the game’s servers will be taken offline forever tonight August 26th.

Released on March 11th 2011, MotorStorm: Apocalypse was a popular racing title and was well received at the time. Over six years after launch, the journey of Apocalypse comes to an end. After such a long time, not many players continue to play the game, which is why Evolution Studios decided to put an end to MotorStorm: Apocalypse.

Regarding the current player count of MotorStorm: Apocalypse, Rustchynksy said“No idea, been a while since I worked at Sony and I don’t get to see the numbers anymore. I suspect it’s very few given how old it is now.”

Unlike its predecessors, Apocalypse focuses more on the story elements. The story of the the game follows three characters, Mash “The Rookie”, Tyler “The Pro”, and Big Dog “The Veteran”, as they participate in the three-day long MotorStorm Festival. The event is set on the West coast of the United States in an apocalyptic urban area called The City.

The game features new vehicles in the form of supercars, superbikes, chopper bikes, and muscle cars which can be driven on over 40 tracks. Each track contains a unique and different environmental effect which can cause the paths to change during playtime. MotorStorm: Apocalypse has received three expansion packs, Revelation, Remix, and Prestige, which each add new vehicles to the game.
