Mystery HTC Phone Shows Up in Geekbench Expected to be the HTC U12 Life

Just in time for that big reveal, an “unknown” HTC phone has appeared in the Geekbench 4 database. This is a benchmarking app used to test just about any PC, phone or tablet you like.

The HTC U12 Life is expected to be announced later this week. The listing details the “HTC 2Q6E1”, which Geekbench 4 says has an octa-core Snapdragon 660 chipset and 4GB RAM. The 660 chipset trumps the 636 chipset that was previously expected on this device.

The actual Geekbench 4 result of 4897 points is dead-on what you’d expect from a Snapdragon 636, rather than the more powerful 660. It’s possibly a Geekbench database mix up or perhaps the phone will have a Snapdragon 660.

The HTC U12 Life is a cut-down version of the HTC U12+ flagship from earlier in 2018. Going by the previous leaks and rumors, the HTC U12 Life is going to sport a 6-inch display with 1080 x 2160 Full HD+ resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. As confirmed by the Geekbench listing, the smartphone will be running on a Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. A microSD card slot is expected to be present, allowing for further expansion by up to 256GB. At the rear, HTC U12 Life is expected to have a 16MP + 5MP dual-camera setup with phase-detection autofocus and support for 4K Ultra HD video recording. For selfies, the smartphone will feature a single 13MP resolution camera with an LED flash. Fueling the HTC U12 Life is rumored to be a 3600mAh capacity battery. The smartphone is also rumored to come with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and might also offer Face Unlock support. Some rumors have suggested the HTC U12 Life will be part of the Android One program, which means it will launch with stock Android 8.1 Oreo OS out of the box and could be updated to Android 9 Pie before the end of the year.

This leak doesn’t tell us anything substantial about HTC’s upcoming phone, but does mean any HTC fans should stay alert for the next few days.
