Next Generation Nvidia Graphics Cards Could Have RTX Branding

The next generation Nvidia graphics cards should be coming out in a months time from what we have heard and it seems that some of them could be rebranded as RTX instead of GTX. This is especially likely of the upcoming Nvidia GTX 1180 and GTX 1170, or should I say RTX 1180 and RTX 1170.

The RTX could mean that these graphics cars will support Nvidia Ray Tracing technology which we know that Metro Exodus is going to use. This feature will not be available on the Pascal GPUs and it seems that it is exclusive to the high-end next-generation Nvidia graphics cards. If this is indeed the case then it will be easy for the consumer to know which graphics cards support Nvidia Ray Tracing and which ones don’t.

It seems that the upcoming GTX 1160 and 1150 Nvidia graphics cards will not support this feature. It is likely that these graphics cards are not powerful enough but at this point that is speculation and you will need to take this with a grain of salt. Wait for the official announcement from Nvidia before taking things to heart.

Ray Tracing is a very interesting technology and we will be able to learn more about it SIGGRAPH 2018 when Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang takes center stage. We might also get an official announcement for the upcoming Nvidia graphics cards as we have heard that the Nvidia graphics cards should be announced before the end of the month and will be hitting the shelves in September. With the even just a few days away we should find out soon enough.

Furthermore, Nvidia has registered the Nvidia Turing trademarks as well as the Quadro RTX and GeForce RTX trademarks. This could mean that the upcoming graphics cards from team Green are based on the Nvidia Turing architecture and this would settle the confusion regarding whether the upcoming architecture is going to be called Turing or Ampere.

It will be interesting to see what kind of performance boost the upcoming next-generation Nvidia graphics cards will provide as compared to the Pascal-based graphics cards as well as AMD Vega GPUs.
