Upcoming Google Chromebooks Will Come With Windows 10 Dual-boot

Google Chromebooks have been great budget options but the OS has not been one of the selling points of the device. The Chrome OS is not all that popular and that is one area where the hardware is taking a hit. With proper hardware, you need decent software support and ChromeOS does not offer that. All that could change in the upcoming versions of the Google Chromebooks.

We have been getting reports that the upcoming Google Chromebooks could feature Window 10 dual boot. That will give users more flexibility and I think that people will be more included in the Google Chromebooks when they have the Windows functionality. You have the inexpensive hardware of Google Chromebooks and the functionality of Windows. What could go wrong?

The additional OS means that the hardware will need to be tested extensively with the new OS and that dual boot actually works on these laptops. That will increase the amount of time needed to rush these devices to market and I think that not all Chromebook makers are going to put in the effort. Besides Google, other brands have Windows 10 devices as well. The dual boot Chromebooks could be exclusive to Google but we are not sure about that. At this point this is speculation so take this with a grain of salt.

This is not the first time that we have heard about dual-boot for Google Chromebooks, We have heard the name project Campfire pop up time and again. But reports claim that the upcoming Chromebooks, at least from Google could have this functionality. Other than that, reports also suggest that users will not need to enable developer mode in Chrome OS in order to get dual-boot functionality.

That is something that users need to go through in order to get Windows running but if these reports are true then the support should be native and users will not be required to go through the unnecessary steps. I think this is something that people will appreciate. It will be interesting to see whether or not Google takes this route. If it does, then it will be catering to a wider audience and that is good for business and for people that want to get the Pixelbook but don’t want ChromeOS.
