Cross-country Rally Racer Dakar 18 Launches September 25th

Dakar 18, the video game adaptation of the real-life cross-country rally races, has been revealed and given a release date. Portuguese developer Bigmoon Entertainment shared a gameplay trailer for the realistic racer and set a late September release. Check out the gameplay trailer here:

Dakar 18

Based off the real world Dakar Rally annual sports event organized by Amaury Sport Organisation, Dakar 18 brings cross-country racing into the video game world. Offering a hyper realistic simulation of the races, the game contains huge open world maps based off real world roads and routes. Players will need to use real road books to navigate themselves through the races that take place in 14 stages across Peru, Bolivia and Argentina.

Dakar 18 gives players the opportunity to try out a wide variety of vehicles, including bikes, cars, trucks, quad bikes and even UTVs. Aside from the basic offline modes, the game also contains an online multiplayer mode in which up to seven players can compete in heated rally races. Additionally, Dakar 18 promotes couch co-op by featuring split screen multiplayer gameplay.

Dakar 18’s huge 12,000 square kilometer maps were created by converting satellite images on to the game terrain, allowing for an extremely accurate representation of real world roads. Players are given the ability to roam free across the rough landscape, and must use road book navigation systems to avoid getting lost. Beware, the changing weather effects can heavily impact your driving ability, causing even the best of drivers to get stuck in dry sand, deep mud, or even river beds. Players are given the choice to take a moment to tow their stuck competitors for extra points, or leave them to their fate in order to get ahead in the race.

Dakar 18 will be available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam starting September 25th. Pre-orders for the game are now live and those who pre-purchase will be given a limited edition Peugeot 205 T16 driven by Ari Vatanen. Head over to the official website to learn more about the game.
